Looking for something different and fun to add to your holiday celebration this year? You can be a part of local Cabaret Theater. If you love to sing and love Christmas, here is something you might like to try. Carson Valley Community Theatre is holding auditions for their first Cabaret Series show, “‘Twas the Night After Christmas: An evening of Holiday Music.”

Please prepare any holiday song of your choice to sing, and bring either a CD or sheet music with you. Auditions are held at the Annex, 1572 U.S. 395 in Minden at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday. A callback will be held on Nov. 10, at 10 a.m. Performances are Dec. 26 and 30. Direct any questions to director Norris Edson at or call 720-7186.

On Thursday, you are invited to the grand flagpole project dedication and ceremonial first flag raising at the Douglas County Community and Senior Center, 1329 Waterloo, Gardnerville. Festivities honoring Veterans Day begin at 10 a.m. followed by the flag ceremony at 10:30 a.m. This event will take place regardless of the weather. There will be complimentary patriotic giveaways, with coffee and donuts served before the ceremony followed by lunch afterward while provisions last. Phone 782-9829 with any questions.

Sponsors are needed for Gardnerville’s 13th annual Carson Valley Christmas Kick Off. Since 2006 the Town of Gardnerville has proudly presented the Carson Valley Christmas Kickoff. The fireworks at the event have continued to draw large crowds each year and delight audiences of all ages. This will be the seventh year the fireworks have been a part of the kickoff. It has become a great tradition we would like to continue. Thursday, Nov. 29, is the jumping off point for all other holiday events in the Carson Valley. Sponsors are needed to make this holiday treat possible each year for residents and visitors to enjoy. This is the one opportunity we have in Douglas County to have fireworks. Fireworks aren’t allowed in the summer, which makes this all the more special. Please visit the website at, email us at or call 782-7134 for more information. Donations are tax deductible under IRS Code Section 170(c)(1).
