Tree-a-Thon to raise funds for performing arts

Staff reports

The 1999 Autumn Hills Tree-a-Thon will feature tree-planting by the cast and crew of the Douglas County three-schools’ production of “Oklahoma!” this Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon.

Students are seeking members of the community to help sponsor them, said teacher Don Baumann.

Trees and planting expertise will be provided by the Nevada Division of Forestry, and funds raised during the event will support performing arts programs at each of the Carson Valley’s secondary schools: Pau-Wa-Lu and Carson Valley middle schools and Douglas High School.

According to Baumann, by supporting the students, people are helping in two efforts: to replant the burned area in Autumn Hills and to help support performing arts projects.

Supporters may designate either individual school programs or the current production of “Oklahoma!”

Students began fund-raising March 4 and will continue up until March 19.

A barbecue for students will be held after the work is done Saturday.
