Trinity Lutheran Childcare Center held a toy drive called Stella’s Soldiers for the Northern Nevada Children’s Cancer Foundation in the name of 2-year-old Stella Woelfel.

Stella is a student at Trinity who has brain cancer and is undergoing a year of chemotherapy.

“The family has raved about the Northern Nevada Children’s Cancer Foundation and is excited to be able to donate these toys in Stella’s honor,” organizer Margaret Lindhjem said. “The toys will be given to the children and their siblings to help pass the time during their treatments. The director said the foundation should be set up for a good part of the year.”

The drive collected 165 toys that were delivered on Wednesday to the treatment center in Reno.

“The bulk of them came from the community, but people were sending toys in from all over the country,” Lindhjem said. “It was really cool. Stella’s mom, Jessica, was hugging everybody and thanking them. She was overwhelmed by the outpouring of support.”
