A March 20 double shooting at Topaz Ranch Estates was a possible botched homicide suicide, and the man involved in the incident has since died, according to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.

Michael Dixon, 50, died last Friday after being on life support at Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno, according to Cpt. Dan Coverley.

At 6:46 p.m. March 20, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office received a call from 1205 Slate Road in Topaz Ranch Estates in southern Douglas County for two victims with gunshot wounds.

Upon arrival, deputies found Dixon with a gunshot wound to the right temple. He was transported by air ambulance.

The second victim, Cathy Clark, 60, was located with a gunshot wound to her right thigh, Coverley said. She was also transported to Renown.

“He shot her, then shot himself,” Coverley said the investigation shows.

Clark was the person who called 911. Dixon and Clark had been in a dating relationship for several years and were both residents of the house, Coverley said. Nobody else was at the Slate Road property at the time of the incident, he said.

“We were fairly certain as to what happened that night, but we still needed to look at a few things and re-interview her,” he said. “We are positive of what happened.”

He said the motivation for the shooting still is unclear.

Clark’s wound was non life-threatening and she has since been released from the hospital, Coverley said.
