Piñon Hills Elementary students enjoyed a visit from a helicopter on their last day of school thanks to the selling prowess of 10-year-old Phoenix Burke.

Phoenix was the top seller for military donations in the Pinenut District as part of the Trails End popcorn sales fundraiser in September and October last year.

He brought in nearly $900 in sales of popcorn to people, who asked that their purchases be shipped to the troops.

Mom Tara Burke said the military popcorn donation is an alternative to people buying the popcorn.

“They can purchase the military donation instead and the popcorn will be shipped to military personnel overseas,” she said.

A member of Troop 33, Phoenix is starting fifth grade at Piñon Hills next semester. He made the transition from Webelos to Boy Scouts this year.

“Phoenix’s goal is to make it to Eagle Scout,” Tara said. “The entire school got to tour the helicopter and it was a great ending to the school year.”

The helicopter was courtesy of the Nevada Army National Guard and flew in from Stead.
