The RC Morning Report
Sunday’s lightning storm resulted in 15 reported fires, according to the Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch. A half dozen of those fires are in the Pine Nut Mountains or the Markleeville area. All six were single trees or less than an acre, and the units on scene are putting them out. The Chariot fire near Red Rock Road north of Reno grew to 100 acres, but as of last night was no longer a threat to structures. The Dog fire grew to 15 acres but also is not a threat to structures.
Big day in court
District Judge Michael Gibbons has a dozen cases on his criminal calendar this morning, including five sentencings. Among those are two admitted drug traffickers who face up to 15 years in prison each for transporting 255 grams of cocaine to Stateline. Joseph Perez, and Oscar Madriz, both 26, pleaded guilty in April. Also up for sentencing today are 56-year-old Adelina Osorio, who admitted to a count of felony possession of methamphetamine; and Delaine Marshall, 43, who said he’d had too much to drink in an August 2012 rollover on Kimmering near Highway 88.
Cool down today
We’re supposed to get a cool-down today, but looking outside, I’ll believe it when I see it. The wind’s expected to pick up at about 10 a.m., and the high temperature is expected to stop at 80 degrees. Expect thunderstorms this afternoon.
