The R-C Storming Report for Christmas Eve

Genoa, Nev. — Update: Chain controls are pretty much in effect on all mountain roads and on Highway 395 from Carson City to Gardnerville and on Highway 88 south of Minden.

A winter weather advisory is in place for Carson Valley from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. this Christmas Eve. If we get the lake effect from Tahoe, spots in the Valley could see 4-6 inches of snow.

It started to snow lightly in Genoa before 6 a.m. Nothing is sticking yet, but given that the temperature is dropping and the forecast, I’d expect to get bad pretty early this morning. The road temperature on Highway 395 at Genoa Lane is already below freezing, so whatever lands there is going to stick.

If it snows today, chances are it will stick around for a few days. The forecast in Minden calls for a high temperature on Christmas Day of 31 degrees, with the low dropping to minus 1 that night.
