The R-C Morning Report for Oct. 28
Genoa, Nev. — Happy not-quite-Nevada-Day today. It’s a school holiday, but Douglas has had the whole week off. It’s a state government holiday, but early voting is open. The feds don’t recognize it, so the mails will run and most federally insured banks will be open.
Douglas residents cast 1,159 early ballots on Thursday, showing a little bit of deceleration, but still more than turned out on the first day. Between early and absentee voting, 8,324 ballots have been cast, or 28 percent of active voters in the county.
Tuesday is the last day to request an absentee ballot for this election. The request has to be done in writing, so I guess an advantage of the mails running is that you can do it today. The form is available at govotedouglas.com. You may also drop it off before 5 p.m., though you would actually walk past people voting to do that.
I’ve got .62 inches of rain in my analogue rain gauge this morning. Markleeville, where there is a flash flood watch, received .8 inches of rain since 11 a.m. Thursday. Fish Springs has seen .64 inches. The watch lifts at 5 p.m. today.
It’s raining lightly outside this morning. Expect that to continue until later today. The wind will pick up out of the southwest at 5-10 mph in the afternoon. We could see up to another quarter to half inch of rain today.
