The R-C Morning Report for Oct. 12
Genoa, Nev. — Today the county is holding its celebration of the completion of Vista Grande through Indian Hills at 9-11 a.m. There will be light refreshments and residents are encouraged to come check out the new road, which will be maintained by Indian Hills General Improvement District.
It’s Columbus Day, so you can forget getting any mail today, or finding a bank open. On the bright side, there’s no federal jury duty today. State, county and local offices will be open, because Nevadans take a day off at the end of October to celebrate our state’s birthday, Halloween.
A New Mexico man accused of breaking down a Stateline resident’s door and taking her cell phone is scheduled to be in court today. Jerry W. Hipley, 24, is due to be arraigned in Douglas County District Court this morning.
The high temperature of 93 degrees was sufficient to break a record for Oct. 10. We may see some records fall this week. The record for Oct. 12 was 92 set in 1992. The Oct. 13 record was 88 in 1999 and the record for Oct. 14 was 87 in 2011. I am not making these up. They’re coming straight from the National Weather Service.
Anyway, today is supposed to see a high temperature of 85 degrees under sunny skies and a west wind at 5 mph. Wednesday looks like the best bet to top a record. It might cool off a bit toward the end of the week.
