The R-C Morning Report for June 3

Genoa, Nev. — The first reading of an ordinance forming a separate board for the East Fork Fire District got a shaky OK on Thursday, with two commissioners expressing concern over the additional political possibilities.

Early voting is going at a low simmer at the Douglas County Courthouse, with 277 residents casting a ballot on Thursday. The high point for the week was Tuesday when 443 people cast a ballot. So far 1,884 people have cast an early or absentee ballot in this election.

While the heat is generating a pretty fast spring melt-off, neither the East nor the West Fork of the Carson River is anywhere near flood stage. The West Fork is expected to crest Monday at 12.3 feet. The East Fork at around 5 feet.

We’re looking at highs in the low 90s today and Saturday with a little bit of an east wind in the afternoon. Things will start to cool off on Sunday, with highs forecast to be in the 70s next week.
