The R-C Morning Report for June 23
June 24, 2016
Today marks the 20th anniversary of the Autumn Hills Fire. I was in that fire, retreating up Kingsbury after being burned over twice in the truck with Don Stangle. It was as close as I ever hope to be to a fire like that. So with the second red flag warning in a row today, let's be careful out there.
It's early yet, so you might be able to catch former Nevada Department of Conservation and Natural Resources at the Kiwanis in the COD Garage at 6:30 a.m., if you're already up and about.
There's a 100-acre wildfire burning near Gabbs that was reported 4:13 p.m. Wednesday. All that cheat grass is starting to burn off.
The Nevada Highway Patrol reported a wreck on Centerville at about 1:40 a.m. There may still be someone there if it's still on the board, so watch out for emergency vehicles.
The fire weather warning is in effect 1-9 p.m. today. Expect sunny skies with a high near 88 degrees. The weather will be breezy with southwest winds 5-15 mph increasing to 15-25 mph in the afternoon. Expect gusts of up to 35 mph.
