Genoa, Nev. — A cigarette butt discarded into the juniper landscaping appears to be the cause of Tuesday’s Lampe Drive apartment fire in Gardnerville.
The last report from the trail on the Pony Express website was at 11:09 p.m. from Cleveland Corral where the rider was running 45 minutes ahead of schedule. There’s no telling how the night ride over the Sierra went yet, but you can check at xphomestation.com for updates. They’re supposed to roll into Woodfords at 9 a.m. and Genoa around 11:30.
The Marines have landed at Minden-Tahoe Airport in preparation for training that will last over the next several days.
County commissioners will discuss the first reading of an ordinance to dissolve Douglas County Sewer Improvement District No. 1 at their Stateline meeting 1:30 p.m. today. The meeting will be on the website at http://www.douglascountynv.gov and might be fairly interesting.
Residents affected by the 300-acre Hawken Fire near Caughlin Ranch were told they could return home last night. Truckee Meadows Fire Chief Charles Moore said there were no active flame fronts and that it’s 20 percent contained.
Expect breezy weather with a high of 67 degrees. The wind will be 15-25 mph this afternoon gusting to 35 mph.
