The R-C Morning Report for July 29
Genoa, Nev. — Two mornings in a row on Monday and Tuesday drivers responsible for accidents have been arrested for driving under the influence in Douglas County. That was the cause of a four-car pile-up on Highway 395 and Mica, and also for the wreck that occurred on Highway 50 at Presbyterian Curve.
Firefighters have a line around 40 percent of the Lowell Fire near Interstate 80 at Gold Run, and it appears to be on its way out full containment on Saturday. The Kyburz Fire is out, and the nearest West Slope blaze with the potential to send smoke into the Valley is the 1,739-acre Willow Fire burning in the mountains west of Merced.
Expect today to be sunny and hot, with the high temperature hitting 97 degrees. A 5-10 mph east wind will pick up in the afternoon. As long as the prevailing winds are blowing east and west, we shouldn’t see smoke from the Willow Fire. If they turn to come out of the south, we might.
