The R-C Morning Report for Dec. 3
Genoa, Nev. — A 3.1-magnitude earthquake was recorded on the west slope of the Wellington Hills near Rissue Road near the Lyon-Douglas line at 6:11 p.m. Wednesday. Only two residents reported feeling the quake and there have been no reports of damage.
I’m expecting more shaking from high winds forecast to roll through Carson Valley this afternoon. A high wind advisory is in effect from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. today. Expect winds from the south at 25-40 mph with gusts to 65 mph.
Gardnerville will make the call this afternoon whether fireworks will be part of their Christmas kickoff tonight. The last time we came this close, a lull allowed the show to go forward.
Douglas County commissioners meet 1 p.m. today. The second reading on the gas and sales taxes are later in the day, which means it could be 4 p.m. before they’re heard. I’ll be following along on the running commentary and the meeting is livestreamed, so if you want to wait to come down that’s probably not a bad idea. The whole meeting times out at about six hours.
It’ll be windy today, but it will also be relatively warm with the high temperature hitting 55 degrees. It won’t drop back below freezing until early Thursday morning. This is a 2-feet-of-wind type of storm, so don’t expect much in the way of rain or snow tonight.
