The R-C Morning Report for Dec. 15

Genoa, Nev. — Project Santa Claus is in full swing down at the Douglas County Fairgrounds in Gardnerville. The pavilion is open 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. today and Wednesday for volunteers to come wrap packages. If you’re bringing a group, call the Project Santa Claus hotline at 339-8882.

No one was seriously hurt when a vehicle went 30 feet over the side on Sonora Highway at the bridge near the Pickel Meadows Mountain Warfare Training Center late last night. The tow truck will come get it this morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Work to take down the roof of the Bently Heritage site will see the closure of one northbound lane of Highway 395 between 5th and 7th streets in Minden at 7 p.m. Wednesday and possibly Thursday. The road will reopen 5:30 a.m. each morning.

Chains or snow tires are still being required over Spooner Summit and Kingsbury Grade and all along Highway 50 in between. Highway 50 over Echo Summit is clear, as is Interstate 80. There are still controls going over Highway 88.

The low temperature today dropped down to 2 degrees at the NDOT station located at 395 and Genoa Lane. It’s actually warmed up quite a bit since then … all the way to 13 degrees.

Today’s high temperature will hit 30 before dropping again. Expect another cold night tonight with a low of 3 degrees. There’s some weather due in over the weekend, but not much in the way of precipitation.
