The R-C Morning Report for Aug. 6

Genoa, Nev. — It’s going to be a very busy day today in Minden, starting with the Hot August Nights Poker Run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The streets will be closed all around Minden Park and through downtown.

County commissioners meet starting at 1 p.m. They’ve got some presentations to do before they get to the report on flooding. So call it 1:20 p.m. before they get to that. Chairman Doug Johnson said he’s anticipating two hours of public comment. I anticipate the meeting will be packed.

That item should be done right around time for residents to make their way to the CVIC Hall for the flood session at 3:30 p.m. Commissioners have some other things to deal with, including a contract with the Douglas County Public Employee’s Association.

The California fires will bring haze to Northern Nevada north of Highway 50 today, which will clear out with the Washoe zephyr this afternoon. Today’s forecast is for a high of 89 degrees. We could see scattered thunderstorms after 11 p.m.
