The R-C Morning Report for Aug. 4
Genoa, Nev. — It’s going to be a busy day in Minden today as hundreds of classic cars roll through town as part of the annual Hot August Nights Poker Run. Esmeralda Avenue will be closed from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. as motorists enjoy lunch at Minden Park.
Then at 1 p.m., Douglas County commissioners will hear updates from Rep. Mark Amodei and one on Northern Nevada Development Authority director Rob Hooper. The meeting times out at two hours and 40 minutes, but we’ll see how that goes.
Genoans decided to close Genoa Street between Nixon and Fifth streets to reduce the through traffic over Candy Dance weekend, which is Sept. 24-25. Town Manager Phil Ritger said residents will still be able to get to their homes with access passes, but won’t be able to move freely down back streets to get back and forth.
Today will be very much like Wednesday, with mostly sunny skies and a high near 92 degrees. The wind will be out of the southwest at 5 mph becoming calm in the afternoon.
