The R-C Morning Report for Aug. 17

Genoa, Nev. — School’s back in session this morning, which means the crosswalks across the county will be back in operation. I can guarantee there will be a Douglas County Sheriff’s deputy at each of them this morning.

The eastern entrance to Yosemite has been closed by the 1,200-acre Walker Fire, burning southwest of Lee Vining within a mile of both Tioga Pass Road and Highway 395. Residents of Lee Vining have been alerted that they may be evacuated.

It’s going to be a hot first day of school, with the high temperature today forecast to hit 96 degrees. The wind will pick up out of the west at 5-10 mph this afternoon.
