The R-C Morning Report for April 1
April 1, 2014
It was the employees versus the school board on Monday night as 40 school district employees turned out for public comment, with a quarter of them speaking. There were a couple of signs in the audience. The Douglas County Education Association is seeking a 7 percent raise, claiming that the district received a roughly 10 percent increase from the state. Public employees aren't allowed by state law to strike, but they can go to binding arbitration.
We've got a busy night tonight, with Douglas County commissioners starting their tentative budget process at 4 p.m. The Genoa Town Board meets at 6:30 p.m., and will be discussing final plans for the Cowboy Festival among other things.
It looks like this storm is playing an April Fool's joke on us today. It rained and snowed about six flakes last night at my house. The clouds over the mountains look threatening, but are they really? Forecast says there's a 40 percent chance of snow, but no accumulation. Expect it to be cold and breezy though, and that's no joke.
