The R-C Morning Report

The new kids in Douglas County’s political arena, and some old-timers will gather this morning to take the oath of office. Anyone elected during 2010 is welcome to raise their right hand at 8:30 a.m. in the county commissioners’ chambers at 1616 Eighth St., but it’s usually mostly county officials. I understand coffee will be served.

New county commissioner Lee Bonner won’t have long after swearing in to get his feet wet, since the first county commissioner meeting is 1 p.m. today in the county commissioners’ chambers. It’s a short meeting, maybe, depending on how the appointments go. They’re giving 10 minutes for each of the 13 bodies. That could be two hours, or it could be faster.

Watch out for the big yellow buses this morning, as school is back from winter break. That means our vacation from school speed zones is officially over. Slow down when you see the flashing yellow lights.

It looks like we got a smidgen of snow this morning to add to our total. Look for a high today of 31 degrees with a low of 10 degrees and patches of freezing fog tonight. It’s 19 degrees out just before dawn.
