The R-C Morning Report

by Joey Crandall

Yes, that’s right, we let editor Kurt Hildebrand escape from the office for his one full week out of the year (it actually has been a while since he’s taken any sort of substantial break).

With election season out the way and the holiday-shortened week upon us, this was just as good a time as any for him to go free.

So where does a newspaper editor escape for his vacation? He said he’d be sitting at home all week playing Civilization on his computer.

In the meantime, I’ll be doing my best to get your days started this week with as much of the news as I can get my hands on, which really is never that much (Kurt just more of his thumb on the pulse of what is going on around here in terms of hard news … Sports on the other hand, I can tell you all you want.)

You can never go wrong with the weather, right?

Temperatures are going to be quite a bit cooler this week after last week’s downright summery conditions. We’re looking at a high of 59 today with partly cloudy skies and that will drop to 54 for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Apparently, we can also expect a chance of showers on Tuesday and Wednesday, and – this being Nevada – that could mean anything from clear skies to blizzards. I’m cheating more on the side of clear skies, but that’s just me.

Regardless, whatever we get is supposed to clear up in time for Thanksgiving.

I’m told the Douglas High boys’ basketball team went 4-1 at its scrimmages over the weekend in California, including a narrow win over Galena.

They’ll scrimmage again on Wednesday and open their season on Saturday (yes, this Saturday) against Hug at the Reno Events Center.

I’ll have an in-depth season preview for them sometime soon (I’m aiming for Friday) but the gist of it is that Douglas is looking to replace four starters this season.

Coach Corey Thacker has assembled a fairly young roster this year, including a couple sophomores. We’ll know more as the week progresses.

So this is it for Monday – weather and sports. I promise to have actual news in here in the next couple days. Have a great day and we’ll see you tomorrow.
