The R-C Morning Report

by Kurt Hildebrand

Like distant artillery, thunder thrums through the atmosphere as lightning strikes hammer the mountains. We’re still in the middle of a storm cell that dumped 2 inches of rain in the Pine Nuts on Sunday. One squall left .1 inches of rain in Genoa this morning. There’s still smoke coming from the Spring fire up above Buckeye Canyon. We had some power bumps this morning, which is why the morning report is running late.

A Carson City woman who admitted to being an ex-felon in possession of a firearm is due in court this morning for sentencing. Melissa Cahill-Livergood, 24, pleaded guilty in April for taking a .38 revolver from another woman’s gun safe and pawning it in Carson City. Under an agreement, prosecutors won’t seek more than 1-4 years consecutive to any sentence she gets from Washoe County for violating her probation.

The forecast looks a lot like what’s going on outside right now, with a 40 percent chance of scattered thunderstorms. When it’s not raining, there should be partly sunny skies with a high near 92.
