About two dozen people took a virtual tour of the proposed community and senior center on Thursday night. The new center will have a dining room that seats 300, seven meeting rooms a gym with two basketball courts, adult day care and a preschool when completed. The center will cost $17 million and take up to three years to build.

Douglas School Board trustees voted to take the next step in the expansion of Douglas High School on Thursday by approving the master plan and moving forward with the development of documents for construction.

Alpine County authorities arrested a California man on Saturday for transportation, possession and sales of narcotics. According to the Alpine County Sheriff’s Office, William Matthews, 22, of Albion, Calif., was arrested and several tablets of suspected methamphetamine seized.

It will be a blustery evening today as a high wind watch goes into effect. The National Weather Service is forecasting 20-25 mph winds, gusting to 60 mph on Saturday. Wind prone areas along the foothills could see 70 mph gusts. Downed power lines and falling trees could accompany the wind storm.
