The R-C Morning Report
February 29, 2012
Douglas county schools at Lake Tahoe are taking a snow day today. If the snowfall down here so far this morning is any indication, the Lake is getting socked. There’s about an inch and a half of snow in Genoa and it’s still coming down. We also had a couple of power outages during the night, no doubt due to the howling winds that hammered the Valley. We’ll find out more about those later today.
Road controls are in effect for Highway 395 from just north of Holbrook to Carson City and from Carson all the way north to the state line. Highway 50 from Carson to Stateline, and Kingsbury Grade both require snow tires or chains. Highway 50 over Echo Summit and Interstate 80 are requiring chains or four-wheel drive
I think we’ve already exceeded the forecast daytime snow accumulation of less than an inch this morning. Expect it to continue to snow today with the wind blowing 25-30 mph, gusting to 50 mph. The radar shows a big blob of moisture right over our heads with the real snow falling just west of Truckee and at North Lake Tahoe.
