A Gardnerville man faces up to five years in prison this morning after admitting he choked his pregnant girlfriend until she lost consciousness. James Angelo Rickett is scheduled to appear in Douglas County District Court this morning on a count of batter that constitutes domestic violence by strangulation. In exchange for Rickett’s guilty plea in December, prosecutors won’t seek a habitual criminal enhancement. Rickett spent nine years in prison on two prior felonies.
East Fork firefighters aided Storey County on Saturday with a fire in a historic Virginia City home. The fire occurred around lunchtime and gutted the Seven Gables House which dates back to the 1870s.
We’re back in the dry pattern, with high temperatures in the 50s and lows in the 20s for the next week at least. Expect partly sunny skies with a high temperature near 57 degrees. We’ll have a little breeze out of the west that will die down as the day progresses.
