The R-C Morning Report

About three dozen people turned out for a session to determine what to put into the new Douglas County Community & Senior Center. Commercial kitchens, green construction and soundproofing were among the suggestions from a crowd that was only about half seniors, and even had a few children in it. Expected completion date for the center is sometime in 2014.
The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and AARP are sponsoring free tax help for seniors and families on public assistance at the South County Substation in Holbrook Junction between Feb. 1 and April 13. They’re expecting a lot of interest and each person takes 2-4 hours, so appointments are required. Call 266-1028 to get a spot.
The National Weather Service cranked up the chance of rain to 30 percent last night, but I’m pretty sure we didn’t get any rain on the west side, and there’s no indication any fell in the Gardnerville Ranchos. Expect today to be sunny with a high of 45 degrees.
