The R-C Morning Report

by Kurt Hildebrand

Snow’s falling in heavy fat flakes this morning, though it appears to be melting pretty quickly, too. Snow tires or chains are required on Highway 395 north of Muller Lane all the way to Reno. Chain controls are in effect for all three routes over the Sierra, and anywhere up on the mountain.

A winter storm warning is in effect until 10 a.m. today. The snow levels are sticking at around 5,000 feet with up to two inches of snow on the Valley floor. We’re in the middle of the heaviest precipitation. Expect rain or snow to continue to fall through 3 p.m. today. The high temperature will top out at 42 degrees.

Up on the mountain, Heavenly reports 8 inches of new snow, making for 20 inches over the weekend. Kirkwood’s reporting 12-14 inches of new snow in the last 24 hours and three feet from this weekend’s storms.
