There was a vehicle fire that spread to the brush up on Courtland in Bodie Flats at about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday. The fire destroyed the vehicle, caught a quarter acre of wildland on fire at the top of the hill and was threatening a structure when firefighters got a handle on it. The cause of the fire is under investigation by Washoe Tribal Police and the Bureau of Indian Affairs.
If you’ve got business with the county or the state, best to conduct it today, because those offices will be closed on Friday for the Nevada Day holiday. Same is true of the credit unions, but not most national banks. The Record-Courier will be open and conducting business both on the legal holiday and the real Nevada Day on Monday. The Douglas County Public Library in Minden is closed today for a furlough day, on Friday for Nevada Day and again on Saturday. The library will reopen on Monday.
My thermometer says it’s 24 degrees in Genoa, the Weather Service says it’s 21 degrees in downtown Gardnerville. I would say that’s a hard enough freeze to put the rabbitbrush in the grave for the season. Expect cooler temperatures to continue at or below freezing for the next week.
