The Feb. 19 R-C Morning Report

Genoa, Nev. — Expect the roads to be slick this Washington’s Birthday morning pretty much everywhere you go. Highway 395 near Airport Road has a little snow on it, according to the NDOT traffic cam.

Road controls are in effect on highways 395 and 88 across Carson Valley. Kingsbury and Highway 50 from Carson to Stateline are also under road controls. If you don’t have to be at work this morning, it might be a good idea to take it slow.

A 900-acre fire has closed Highway 6 between Bishop and Benton and forced the evacuation of the Meadow Creek area in the Chalfant Valley and the Law’s Railroad Museum.

About 2.4 inches of snow fell at 8800 feet near Jobs Peak according to snow telemetry. It’s a frosty 1 degree up on the mountain. I don’t think there’s a whole quarter inch of snow here north of Genoa. Gauges further out in the Valley aren’t recording much more. Just enough wet out to be slick.

The National Weather Service is warning residents it’s going to stay cold for the next couple of days. We might see some lake effect snows today. Today’s high won’t crack freezing, and the low tonight will be in single digits. Brrrr!
