Tanker truck rolls over in Mono County
A truck hauling hot liquid asphalt dumped 3,000 gallons on the east side of Highway 89 early Sunday morning.
Jurupa Valley, Calif., resident Peter Sevillano was southbound a mile west of Highway 395 when he made a sudden turn that caused the truck to turn over onto its side.
Sevillano sustained major injuries and was taken by CareFlight ambulance helicopter to Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno.
California Highway Patrol officers responded to the scene and are investigating the wreck.
The trucking company has contacted with a hazardous material contractor to clean up the spill and scene, officials said.
The California Highway Patrol along with the California Department of Transportation is monitoring the cleanup. Highway 89 from the junction with Highway 4 to Highway 395 will remain closed until the clean-up is done.
