Suspect found hiding under blankets

Staff Reports

A 35-year-old Lake Tahoe man, suspected of leading Douglas County deputies on a naked chase through the woods two weeks ago, was arrested Thursday hiding under a pile of blankets at his residence on Sherwood Drive.

Deputies had a warrant for Edward Jachimiak on an allegation that he took $100 groceries from Safeway supermarket in Round Hill in July.

He also was jailed on a charge of failing to register as an ex-felon.

On Aug. 26, a man suspected of being Jachimiak, was reported running naked through the woods near Kingsbury Meadows. Deputies arrived around noon after a caller reported hearing a gunshot in the area.

The search ended a few hours later with no sign of the suspect or any evidence of the shooting report. Deputies suspected Jachimiak after talking with his girlfriend, according to reports.

Deputies returned to the address Thursday with a warrant for Jachimiak on allegations he took food from the grocery store and failed to register as an ex-felon.

They discovered him hiding under a pile of blankets behind a couch.

He was identified on a store video and through his vehicle license.

According to records, Jachimiak has 14 prior felony and misdemeanor arrests.
