Sunday accident closes roundabout

Staff Reports

A Genoa woman was injured in a three-car accident that occurred 11:20 a.m. Sunday on Highway 88 at the roundabout.

The woman told Nevada Highway Patrol troopers she was southbound in the slow lane of Highway 88 when she tried to beat the driver of a Mercury Sable in the fast lane to the roundabout.

The rear of the Honda clipped the Mercury’s front, causing the Honda to rotate and skid broadside across the northbound lanes and into the path of a third vehicle, a 2009 Ford Focus driven by a Minden resident. The Honda continued up the northbound curb, hitting a tree and flipping over to its left side.

Honda driver Alejandra Perez Resendiz, 19, was taken to Carson Valley Medical Center by East Fork paramedics with moderate injuries.

A passenger in the Honda, all three occupants of the Mercury, and the driver of the Focus all reported injuries in the accident, but none were transported.
