Structure fire reported on Service Drive
Gardnerville, Nev. — A Saturday fire at the Dollar Store & Party Connection wiped out the contents of the store, though the building survived.
Damage inside was extensive to the contents, East Fork Fire Investigator Terry Taylor said Monday.
While the investigation into the cause of the fire is continuing, Taylor said all the doors and windows were locked at the time of the fire and there was no sign of entry before the fire broke out.
“Our guys had to break in” he said.
Structural damage to the building was confined to one area damage to roof, where Taylor said the fire didn’t vent, but got to vent pipes for heating unit.
Black smoke was reported pouring out of the building at 6:17 p.m. Saturday.
East Fork Battalion Chief Scott Fraser described the fire as fairly small, occurring in a back room, but producing heavy smoke.
“There was heat damage to everything in the store,” he said. “There wasn’t much damage to the building.”
Smoke from burning plastic prompted fire officials to clear spectators from a spot downwind of the fire.
“We were just being 110-percent cautious about it,” he said.
Crews were on the scene within five minutes of the first report and had it extinguished within 40 minutes of arriving.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
The store opened in December 2014 in the building formerly occupied by CarQuest.
