Stolen check ring results in Tahoe arrest
More than $16,600 in cash was obtained by cashing stolen checks at Stateline casinos between Aug. 19 and 25, according to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.
Seven people were listed on the checks, which were drawn on a South Lake Tahoe restaurant.
After alerting the casinos about the fraudulent checks, the Lakeside Inn reported that South Lake Tahoe resident John Liska tried to cash one for $976.15, and was taken into custody by security on Monday night.
During questioning, Liska allegedly told investigators that he’d previously cashed a fraudulent check.
During booking, authorities allegedly found .3 grams of methamphetamine, .3 grams of heroin and 8 grams of heroin soaked cotton tips in Liska’s backpack.
