Speech and debate looking for judges

Staff Reports

The Douglas County Speech and Debate team will be hosting three tournaments this school year.

On Friday and Saturday, the second Northern Nevada Forensic League tournament will be hosted at Carson Valley Middle School. More than 200 students from 18 high schools in Northern Nevada will compete in both speaking and debating events over the two days.

The second event will be held at Douglas High School on Jan. 13-14, and the last tournament will be the Nevada State Speech and Debate Tournament held at Douglas High on March 23-24.

The speech and debate team is looking for volunteers to help judge at any of the events. The team will provide snacks and beverages, as well as lunch and dinner, for those who are able to judge.

There will be two judging clinics inside CVMS room 29 from 6-7 p.m. and 7-8 p.m. tonight. The room is a computer lab located in the B Hall of the school but accessed from its own external door. Attendance at the clinic is not required to judge, but many have found it a helpful orientation to the activity.
