Snow showers possible, but snow accumulation not likely

Staff Reports
Jim GrantBirds flock unconcerned about the weather on Tuesday morning after a predicted storm fizzled in Carson Valley.

While snow showers are possible throughout Western Nevada tonight, the potential that any will accumulate has evaporated, according to a statement issued by the National Weather Service.

Only light snow accumulations are possible in the Foothills and south of Carson City through this evening, with no accumulation for the Reno and Sparks area.

Forecasters warn that even in areas that receive light snowfall after 6 p.m., there’s a chance for hazardous driving conditions.

The predicted 1-2 inches of snow in Carson Valley never materialized today, which saw partly sunny skies and few flurries.

Road controls are in effect this evening over Interstate 80, Highway 50 and Highway 88, as well as the Mount Rose Highway and Highway 89 on Lake Tahoe’s West Shore. A wind alert in in effect for Washoe Valley.
