Smith Valley ag burn prompts fire call

East Fork Fire District units responded to a report of a fire near Jack Wright Pass at 12:38 p.m. Thursday, only to find it was really in Smith Valley.

According to Douglas County dispatchers, the one-acre fire is located near Highway 208 and Hudson Way, about 10 miles east of the pass, located at the eastern county line.

Lyon County firefighters said they will handle it and East Fork units were released.

■ Gardnerville, Minden and Stateline residents experienced a brief power bump at 9:18 a.m. Thursday.

NV Energy Spokeswoman Faye Andersen said the outage was related to a problem that has been traced to a line out of the Meyers (California) Substation that runs to Stateline.

"We've sent our troubleshooter in the area to patrol the line and investigate," she said. "We don't know if any or how many customers might be without power, because they are on the California side, so they are served by Liberty Utilities, not NV Energy."
