Sex offender up for parole in March
A California man convicted of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl has a parole hearing in March.
Elisandro Mendoza, 54, is being held at Lovelock Correctional Center in close custody, according to the Nevada Department of Corrections.
He was sentenced in Douglas County District Court to 10 years to life imprisonment on Oct. 23, 2007.
The Tulare man reportedly threatened the victim with a weapon that turned out to be BB gun. In fear of Mendoza, the victim submitted to him. The incident occurred Nov. 3, 2006.
He agreed to plead guilty in a deal, though he denied committing the offense and complained about his legal representation throughout the case.
A man who burglarized several homes in Chichester Estates is also up for a parole hearing in March. Christopher Bernal was sentenced to six years in prison on Oct. 19, 2015.
The 2014 burglaries took place on May 26 and June 2. He was seen emerging from between two homes by investigators before getting into a vehicle.
Deputies conducted a traffic stop and Bernal bolted from the vehicle and was pursued through the neighborhood leaving a trail of stolen goods behind him.
