After a year’s hiatus, Oktoberfest is returning to Gardnerville on Sept. 10.

“A German-themed event with polka music, German foods, beer and wine,” said organizer Jim Woods. “It’s a fundraiser for local agencies, charities and scholarships.”

A major fundraiser for Carson Valley Sertoma for a quarter of a century, the group took a break last year.

If it’s anything like the previous events, Sertomans will be selling bratwurst, knockwurst, potato salad, sauerkraut, strudel and German beer.

The Douglas High School Culinary Club will prepare German potato salad and sauerkraut.

Sertoma expects about 150 participants during the course of the day.

The group’s festival permit goes before the Gardnerville Town Board on Tuesday. According to the paperwork, there will be 25 craft booths participating in the event, which will be 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

The Gardnerville Town Board approved the permit on Tuesday.
