Send the Tigers to the capital

Record Courier Staff Reports

Douglas High School band members are hoping Carson Valley residents will make their Christmas a merry one.

The band is raising money to go to President George W. Bush’s inauguration.

That means they have just over three weeks to raise an estimated $1,000 per band member or chaperone to go.

Raising that money is not going to be easy. News reports that the other Nevada band invited to march in the inauguration, the McQueen Lancers, may not be able to raise the money in time.

McQueen had more time to get their ducks in a row and a larger base to draw from, but still must raise $110,000 by Christmas Eve to make their wish come true.

Fighting Tiger Band Director Bill Zabelsky knows the news could come at a better time, but that’s not going to stop the indomitable Mr. Z from giving it the old Douglas try.

And it shouldn’t stop us as a community from coming together to send the pride of Carson Valley to our nation’s capital.

Now in this holiday season we should put aside whatever differences we may have over the destination and send one message to the 80 members of our band. We care about you and we know you are good enough to play for anyone in our nation, right up to the highest office in the land.
