Secret Witness offers $500 reward in armed robbery attempt
Douglas County Secret Witness is offering a $500 reward for information in identifying an attempted robbery suspect who tried twice to grab an 18-year-old woman’s purse as she walked on Tillman Lane on Sept. 18.
Sgt. Jim Halsey said at approximately 8:10 p.m. the woman was walking northbound along the eastern shoulder of Tillman Lane across from Redwood Circle in the Gardnerville Ranchos.
She was wearing earphones, listening to music from an MP3 player, and her purse was hanging from her left shoulder.
As she was walking, the victim felt a tug on her purse, and she turned around. A man grabbed her purse and she struck the suspect on the left side of his neck with her open hand.
She pulled away from the suspect, and fell to the ground. The suspect grabbed her purse a second time, so she swung her purse at him, striking him in the face, causing him to stumble backward.
She got up and ran to a nearby house of a friend, and called the sheriff’s office to report the incident. Deputies were unable to locate the suspect.
Halsey said the victim described the man as white, mid 20s, between 5-foot-9 and 5-foot-11, medium build, with light-colored eyes and a hooked nose, clean-shaven, wearing dark denim pants, dark long-sleeve shirt, and a black beanie cap.
Anyone with information regarding this incident is urged to call Secret Witness at 782-7463, or Investigator Brian Hubkey, 782-9926.
Anonymity is assured and payment will be made in any manner the caller prefers.
