Second try at television theft fails

A man who tried to take a television out of the Topsy Walmart is being sought in connection with a prior theft.

According to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, the man made off with a 48-inch Samsung television and a Vizio soundbar on Sept. 25

He returned on Oct. 1 and tried to take a flat screen television, but was stopped. He drove away in an older black Saab with Utah plates.

A reward is being offered for information leading to a conviction. Anyone with information is asked to call Douglas County Dispatch at 782-5126 or Douglas County Secret Witness at 782-7463 or DCSO Investigator Jon Storke at 782-9908. Callers will remain anonymous.

■ A Gardnerville Ranchos resident reported that someone shot his cat on Sunday morning.

He told deputies that he called the cat in when he heard a crack and the cat came running and into the Leealan Drive home. The cat did not survive being shot.

A .22 caliber projectile was removed from the cat and booked into evidence.

■ A California man who told a deputy he'd had a beer somewhere between Bishop and Gardnerville had a preliminary breath test of twice the legal limit.

A deputy stopped a red Ford Explorer that passed him doing 10 mph over the speed limit on Highway 395 in Gardnerville 6 p.m. Oct. 14.

He was taken into custody after he failed a field sobriety test. A preliminary breath test showed he had a .164 blood alcohol content. Deputies received a search warrant to take a blood sample.
