Second bicyclist injured by car

The second young bicyclist in three weeks was hit by a car in Carson Valley on Tuesday morning.

According to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, an 11-year-old boy was taken to Carson Valley Medical Center after being struck at the intersection of Long Valley Road and Ann Way.

Medics and deputies responded to a 7:33 a.m. report.

Driver Nigel Vopalensky said he stopped for a pedestrian and then took a right turn onto Ann Way, hitting the bicyclist in the crosswalk.

The boy was transported to Carson Valley Medical Center.

An 11-year-old Gardnerville boy is still in the hospital after he was struck while on his bicycle on Sept. 16.
