Searchers find family reported lost

Staff Reports

A family of five lost in the Pine Nuts for nearly six hours was found at 10:40 p.m. Thursday.

Searchers were looking for a van with its flashers on, according to reports from the field.

Members of the Douglas County Search and Rescue Team were looking near Bobwhite Road in the East Valley starting at about 5 p.m. when dispatchers received the original report. There was no indication that the two adults and three children were injured.

Rain on snow combined with warmer temperatures to turn Douglas County’s dirt roads into muddy soup on Thursday.

Four rescue teams participated, searching the area near Bobwhite Road, 3-4 miles east of East Valley Road.

Complicating the search were high winds, with a 41 mph gust recorded at the Fish Springs Volunteer Fire Department.
