Schools on one hour delay
All Douglas County schools are on a one-hour delay this morning after about an inch of snow fell overnight in Genoa as a fast moving storm rolled through Western Nevada.
According to the school district’s web site, buses will be by to pick up students an hour after their normal time at both Lake Tahoe and Carson Valley. District officials say students will return home at their regular time.
There’s snow on the roads, so expect a slow commute this morning.
Road controls are in effect on Highway 395 from Muller Lane to Stephanie Way and from south of Gardnerville through the Pine Nuts to the California state line. Snow tires or chains are required on Highway 50 from south Carson City all the way to Stateline.
Expect chain controls in the mountains and on most highways north and east of Carson City. There’s also a high wind warning in Washoe Valley.
The Nevada Highway Patrol is reporting three property damage accidents and a motorist assist in Sparks.
A winter weather advisory is in effect for Carson Valley through 10 a.m. as bands of moderate to heavy snow move south.
Heavenly Ski Resort reported 8 inches of new snow over night. Kirkwood is reporting 6-8 inches of new snow with more coming down.
