School runaway found safe
A 10-year-old boy who ran away from Pinion Hills Elementary School Friday was found a few hours later after Douglas County Search & Rescue personnel joined school staff and volunteers in the search.
The boy left the school about 11 a.m. without permission and was located about 4 p.m.
“Apparently there was some issue at the school, which prompted him to leave,” said Douglas County Undersheriff Bob Rudnick.
“He was located at a residence some distance from the school.”
The boy was turned over to the Douglas County Juvenile Probation Department, Rudnick said. Whether or not he would be charged with an offense could not be determined at press time.
In addition to search and rescue personnel, several members of the school staff distributed flyers to aid in the search.
Due to his age, the sheriff’s department did not release the boys name. The incident is under investigation and additional details were unavailable.
