Sage grouse field tour July 13

The Bi-State Sage-Grouse Local Area Working Group is inviting stakeholders, landowners, agency representatives, and anyone interested in the conservation of sage grouse to attend a field tour on July 13 along important sage-grouse use areas.

The tour will start in Smith Valley, with stops along Highway 338 in the Sweetwater Mountains, and end at the East Walker River near Bridgeport.

Topics of the field tour will include sage-grouse habitat requirements, existing and planned project work, current research and findings, update on the listing status, and what the attendees of the tour can do to become involved.

Agency representatives from the Bureau of Land Management, the Natural Resources Conservation Service, the Nevada Department of Wildlife, U.S. Forest Service, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and U.S. Geological Survey, along with local ranchers, will be available on the tour to provide information and answer any questions.

The tour is on July 13 and starts at 9:30 a.m. The group will be meeting at Smith Valley High School at 30 Day Lane, Smith.

Participants should bring field supplies such as hats and water, along with a lunch and binoculars.
