Road damage keeps Tioga Pass closed
While snow has been cleared from the eastern entrance to Yosemite National Park, road repairs have delayed its opening until repairs are completed.
California Department of Transportation road crews working on Tioga Pass have met up with their counterparts from the park.
Extensive damage occurred to guardrail from the heavy snow and requires repair before the highway can be safely opened to the traveling public, California Department of Transportation officials announced on Thursday. Work continues with removing snow from the shoulders, road repair and rock removal.
There is no estimated date for reopening the highway at this time.
Snowy conditions will prevent Sonora Pass from opening today as previously expected, CalTrans announced this morning.
Crews will determine if it will be open on Saturday.
Road crews have reached the summit, but continue to remove snow and ice and conduct road repairs.
Ebbetts Pass on Highway 4 through Alpine County also remains closed, according to CalTrans.
