Retirement luncheon scheduled for McMorris

Staff reports

The public is invited to a retirement luncheon for Tahoe Township Justice Steve McMorris Thursday, Oct. 26 at noon.

Master of Ceremonies Ron Pierini said McMorris is being honored for 24 years of service to Douglas County.

McMorris joined the Douglas County District Attorney’s Office in 1974 and worked under then-DA Howard McKibben, who is now a U.S. District Court Judge. McMorris was elected district attorney in 1977. In 1979, he put out a shingle for himself. He was appointed to the post of Justice in Stateline in 1981 and elected to the post after that.

“He will be truly missed by lots of people. He did a great job for Douglas County. His decisions are very rarely challenged or overturned after all these years. He is a level-headed guy,” Pierini said.

McMorris plans to move to Gardnerville and will work as an arbitrator for the District Court.

The luncheon will be at Harveys casino convention center. Cost is $20 for a buffet luncheon. Reservations must be made by noon Oct. 23.

RSVP to Cyndi, Marie or Karen at the Stateline justice court at (775) 586-7200.
