Rescuers retrieve skier in Carson Range’s terrain
A day after members of Douglas County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue team trained on the Carson Range’s eastern slope they were called to find a skier in the same area.
Searchers located and rescued the missing skier on Sunday, after working the previous day with Heavenly Ski Resort, which allowed search and rescue members to ride the gondola and Tamarack Chair before the resort opened to the public.
Sheriff’s Sgt. Pat Brooks said Heavenly allowed the team to conduct technical training that focused on safely traveling down to Carson Valley, as would be required on a real rescue.
The training session involved navigation in avalanche terrain, a technical rope scenario, and a mock patient transport in a ski toboggan.
